There was a time in Murugan’s journey when his rescue and rehabilitation ventures took a toll on his life’s safety. He was subjected to countless threats on every child rescue as many illegal activities were being done by mafias and dangerous criminals with these street children were used as a shield. When he started his missions, presence of such goons was immense all across the streets of Kochi. During one of his rescues he had to come face to face with evil men. They had a poor boy in their captivity so much misery that he had unfortunately lost his vision. These men were notorious for their callous deeds and they have a practice of inflicting violence upon whoever points their finger at them. Murugan prioritized rescuing the boy’s life over his own fear and safety. After rescue, on his way back, Murugan’s rickshaw was stopped by the same gang. Murugan was manhandled and left helpless on the road. His Auto was destroyed too. Irrespective of all these atrocities toward him, he did not retaliate in anger as he believed that an act of violence would never breed peace to the misfortunes he had to suffer. He knew from day one that love was a thousand times more powerful than violence and hatred.
Murugan started Theruvorum in 2007 with just one passion – Serving the Helpless in his possession.
Of the myriad instances of such rescues and rehabilitation, some of them still turn his eyes moist, like the rescue of Narayani (55) a former school teacher abandoned on the streets by her family and the rescue of a whole family of four who were forced by the mafia to beg on the streets.
